COURSE CURRICULUM

The BSc (Hons) Occupational Therapy course is designed to develop students into skilled, compassionate, and professional practitioners capable of supporting individuals with diverse needs. In the first year, students build a strong foundation through modules such as Professional and Interprofessional Skills for Practice, Informing Sciences, Engagement in Occupation, and Concepts of Therapy, combining theoretical knowledge with practical understanding of occupational therapy principles. The second year focuses on advancing professional expertise and applied skills, with modules including Professional Reasoning, Developing Professional Skills: Therapy and Occupation, Professional Enquiry, and Collaboration and Leadership in Service Enhancement, which emphasize critical thinking, reflective practice, and leadership in healthcare settings. Students engage in practical experiences and interprofessional learning, preparing them for real-world practice. The final year further develops independence and professional competence through modules such as Advancing Occupational Therapy Practice in Diverse Communities, Becoming a Professional: Professional Skills, Professional Enquiry Proposal, and Autonomous Practitioner. These modules enable students to consolidate their learning, demonstrate professional judgment, and apply occupational therapy approaches autonomously in complex and varied contexts. Across all three years, the course integrates theoretical study with hands-on experience and reflective practice, ensuring graduates are well-prepared for professional registration and careers in occupational therapy, capable of promoting health, wellbeing, and quality of life for their clients.
