COURSE CURRICULUM

The BSc Nursing (Adult) program at Essex is a three-year, full-time course designed to equip students with the knowledge, skills, and practical experience required to become competent and compassionate adult nurses. In the first year, students focus on foundational modules that introduce key concepts in nursing, health sciences, and patient care, building essential theoretical knowledge and practical skills across a range of clinical settings. This includes developing communication, assessment, and basic nursing competencies, supported by hands-on experience to ensure students gain confidence in patient interactions. In the second year, the curriculum advances to more complex areas of adult nursing, covering specialised practice, care planning, and the management of diverse health conditions. Students continue to gain clinical experience while exploring professional and ethical responsibilities, enhancing their ability to respond effectively to a variety of healthcare scenarios. The final year consolidates learning through advanced modules that emphasise leadership, evidence-based practice, and specialised care. Students integrate their knowledge and clinical experience to deliver high-quality, patient-centred care, while also developing critical thinking, decision-making, and advocacy skills. Across all three years, the program combines academic study with practical placements, preparing graduates to meet the challenges of adult nursing and make a meaningful contribution to health and social care.
