COURSE CURRICULUM

The BSc Mathematics with Computing degree is structured over three years, blending core mathematical concepts with practical computing skills to prepare students for careers that require analytical and technical expertise. In the first year, students complete eight modules, including introduction to programming, object-oriented programming, calculus, statistics, matrices and complex numbers, discrete mathematics, and mathematical and computational modelling, alongside a zero-credit mathematics careers and employability module. These foundational modules establish both mathematical understanding and programming skills, while fostering problem-solving and analytical thinking. In the second year, students deepen their knowledge with modules in application programming, data structures and algorithms, linear algebra, statistics II, real analysis, numerical methods, and optimisation through linear programming, supplemented by a compulsory-with-options module allowing some specialization, and continued careers support. This year emphasizes the integration of mathematics and computing, equipping students with tools to analyze and model complex systems. In the final year, students study complex variables, select from compulsory-with-options and optional mathematics and computing modules, and continue professional development with the careers and employability module. The program’s combination of theoretical knowledge, computational expertise, and applied experience ensures graduates develop critical thinking, technical proficiency, and flexibility, making them well-prepared for careers in data analysis, computing, research, finance, or further study in mathematics and technology-focused disciplines.
