COURSE CURRICULUM

The BSc Finance program at Essex Business School provides a structured and comprehensive pathway to understanding finance, accounting, and economics, equipping students with the skills needed for careers in financial analysis, investment, banking, and corporate finance. In the first year, students gain a strong foundation through core modules including Introduction to Accounting I and II, Quantitative Methods and Finance, Introduction to Finance, Introduction to Management, Professional and Academic Development, and Introduction to Economics, combining technical, analytical, and managerial knowledge. The second year builds on this foundation with compulsory modules in Financial Reporting and Analysis I and II, Corporate Finance, Portfolio Analysis, and Financial Modelling, while offering optional modules to tailor learning to individual interests. These courses develop students’ ability to evaluate financial information, understand corporate decision-making, and apply quantitative and analytical techniques. In the third year, students deepen their expertise with compulsory modules in International Financial Markets and Monetary Policy, Alternative Investments, Empirical Finance, and Options and Futures, alongside a choice between advanced finance modules, providing opportunities for specialization. Optional modules further allow students to explore specific areas of interest, combining theory with practical application.
