COURSE CURRICULUM

The BA Politics and Economics course at Essex University provides an integrated understanding of the interactions between political and economic systems, equipping students with both theoretical knowledge and practical analytical skills. In the first year, students build a strong foundation with core modules in economics, politics, and quantitative economics, alongside optional subjects that allow exploration of additional interests, while also developing career-focused skills through the Career Portfolio. In the second year, the program deepens students’ expertise with intermediate microeconomics and quantitative political analysis, alongside the introduction to econometric methods, enhancing their ability to interpret and analyse data. The third year focuses on advanced applications and integration of knowledge, including advanced quantitative political analysis, comparative political economy, and international political economy. Students also undertake a capstone project, enabling them to conduct independent research that synthesizes learning from across both disciplines. Optional economics modules allow further specialisation, while the Career Portfolio ensures ongoing professional development.
