COURSE CURRICULUM

The BSc Economics and Mathematics course at Essex offers a rigorous combination of mathematical and economic study, designed to develop strong analytical, problem-solving, and computational skills. In the first year, students build a solid foundation with core modules in economics, calculus, algebra, statistics, and mathematical methods, alongside compulsory modules that focus on developing essential academic and career skills. This combination ensures students gain both theoretical understanding and practical competence. The second year deepens this knowledge with intermediate microeconomics and macroeconomics, further mathematical methods including linear algebra and differential equations, and optional modules that allow students to explore areas of personal interest. Compulsory modules continue to reinforce career readiness while enhancing the ability to apply mathematical tools to complex economic problems. In the final year, students have the opportunity to specialize through optional mathematics and economics modules, alongside compulsory advanced modules such as linear regression analysis and applied statistics.
