COURSE CURRICULUM

The BSc Actuarial Science course is structured over three years to provide a balance of mathematical theory, statistical techniques, and financial applications. In the first year, students build strong foundations in mathematics and finance through modules such as Calculus, Matrices and Complex Numbers, Statistics I, Introduction to Finance, and Economics for Actuaries. They also gain practical experience in Mathematical and Computational Modelling, alongside professional development through the Mathematics Careers and Employability module. The second year advances this knowledge with core topics including Finance and Financial Reporting, Financial Mathematics, Statistics II, Survival Analysis, and Contingencies I. Compulsory modules such as Optimisation, Ordinary Differential Equations, and Linear Algebra expand analytical and problem-solving skills, while employability training continues to prepare students for professional pathways. In the final year, learning becomes more specialised, with modules in Statistical Methods, Mathematics of Portfolios, and Financial Derivatives, alongside compulsory areas like Contingencies II, Stochastic Processes, Linear Regression Analysis, and Bayesian and Computational Statistics. A Capstone Project allows students to apply their mathematical and actuarial knowledge in a focused piece of work. This structured progression ensures graduates leave with strong quantitative, analytical, and financial expertise, as well as industry-ready skills aligned with actuarial professional standards.
