COURSE CURRICULUM

The Neural Engineering course provides an interdisciplinary approach to understanding and applying engineering principles to the human nervous system, integrating knowledge from psychology, computer science, electronics, and biomedical engineering. In the first year, students build foundational skills through modules in applied psychology, programming, digital electronic systems, and neural engineering research methods, alongside hands-on team projects to develop problem-solving and collaborative skills. The second year focuses on more specialized topics such as artificial intelligence, neuroimaging, brain-computer interfaces, peripheral-neural interfaces, and the relationship between brain and behavior, while continuing practical development through project work and optional modules that allow exploration of related areas. In the final year, students undertake an individual capstone project, applying their knowledge to design, develop, or investigate neural engineering systems. Additional modules cover digital signal processing, analysis and classification of neural signals, and the neuroscience of human nature, providing both theoretical understanding and practical experience. The course emphasizes developing the skills required to create innovative treatments for neurological disorders, design assistive technologies, and advance brain-computer interface systems. Graduates leave with a strong interdisciplinary foundation, technical expertise, and research experience, equipping them to become leaders in the emerging neural engineering industry and contribute to advancements in biomedical technologies that can transform human health and cognition.
