COURSE CURRICULUM

The BEng Communications and Electronic Engineering course at Essex provides a comprehensive foundation in both electrical engineering and computer science, equipping students with the knowledge and skills needed to design, develop, and manage modern communication systems. In the first year, students build essential technical and analytical skills through modules such as mathematics for engineers, programming with C, fundamentals of digital systems, digital electronic systems, and the foundations of electronics, alongside practical teamwork in the Team Project Challenge. The second year develops these skills further with engineering mathematics, analogue and digital circuit design, signal processing, engineering electromagnetics, computer and data networks, and C programming with embedded systems, preparing students to tackle complex technical problems in real-world contexts. In the final year, students undertake an individual capstone project that integrates their learning, while also studying advanced topics in telecommunication networks and systems, digital signal processing, telecommunication principles, and network engineering, with the opportunity to select an additional optional module to tailor their expertise. Throughout the course, students are encouraged to apply both theoretical knowledge and practical skills to real-world problems, fostering creativity, technical competence, and problem-solving abilities. Graduates leave equipped to pursue careers in telecommunications, electronics, IT, and related industries, ready to influence the future of communications technology.
