COURSE CURRICULUM

This course in European Studies with Italian provides students with a strong interdisciplinary foundation in history, politics, culture, and language while encouraging them to think critically about Europe’s past, present, and future. In the first year, students develop core academic skills through modules such as Interdisciplinary Research and Problem-Solving, Ways of Knowing, and Democracy in Europe and the United States, 1789-1989, alongside structured Italian language study and introductory options in European history and culture. The second year builds on this foundation with more advanced Italian language training, while optional modules allow students to specialise further in areas of European politics, history, or cultural studies, supported by courses in comparative politics and interdisciplinary approaches. The third year is spent abroad in Italy, where students immerse themselves in the language and culture, significantly strengthening their fluency and intercultural understanding. Returning in the final year, students advance to mastery-level Italian while also selecting from a wide range of final-year options in European studies, allowing them to tailor the degree to their interests. The program equips students with linguistic proficiency, intercultural awareness, analytical skills, and the intellectual flexibility to engage with Europe’s complex challenges and opportunities in a global context.
