COURSE CURRICULUM

This course in European Studies with German combines interdisciplinary learning with intensive language training to provide a comprehensive understanding of Europe’s past, present, and future. In the first year, students develop key academic skills through modules such as Interdisciplinary Research and Problem-Solving, Ways of Knowing, and Democracy in Europe and the United States, 1789-1989, while beginning their study of German language at an appropriate level. Additional options allow exploration of European history and culture, alongside introductory training in research and academic development. In the second year, students advance their German studies through intermediate or advanced modules, while also deepening their understanding of European politics, society, and culture through optional modules across disciplines such as history, politics, and sociology. The third year is spent abroad in a German-speaking country, offering full linguistic and cultural immersion and the opportunity to consolidate language proficiency and gain first-hand experience of European life. In the final year, students complete Mastery-level German alongside advanced modules in European studies, including research-focused options and interdisciplinary projects. This flexible program equips graduates with strong language skills, analytical ability, and intercultural competence, preparing them for careers in international relations, cultural organisations, education, or further research in European affairs.
