COURSE CURRICULUM

This European Studies with French course combines the study of Europe’s political, historical, and cultural contexts with the development of advanced French language skills. In the first year, students are introduced to interdisciplinary research methods, approaches to knowledge, and the history of democracy in Europe and the United States between 1789 and 1989. Alongside these, they begin intensive French language study and explore European topics through optional modules, while also developing academic and professional skills. The second year builds on this foundation with further language study, either through intermediate or advanced French, and offers flexibility through optional modules in European studies across disciplines such as history, politics, sociology, and culture. Students also engage with comparative politics and optional specialist topics to broaden their understanding. The third year is spent abroad in a French-speaking country, providing full immersion in the language and culture to strengthen fluency and cultural awareness. In the final year, students complete advanced mastery-level French, alongside options in European studies tailored to their interests. The course concludes with a major capstone project in European studies, equipping graduates with strong research, analytical, and communication skills for careers in international relations, diplomacy, cultural sectors, and beyond.
