COURSE CURRICULUM

This four-year European Studies and Languages degree is designed to provide students with a deep understanding of Europe while equipping them with advanced linguistic skills. In the first year, students begin their study of one or two European languages, choosing from beginners, intermediate, or advanced levels, while also exploring interdisciplinary approaches through modules such as Interdisciplinary Research and Problem-Solving and Ways of Knowing. Optional modules allow for further exploration of European history, politics, and culture, supported by skills development through Beyond the BA. The second year advances language proficiency with compulsory study of a major and a second language, complemented by interdisciplinary modules and optional courses from European Studies and related fields, giving students the flexibility to tailor their studies. The third year is spent abroad, fully immersing students in a European culture, language, and academic environment to consolidate fluency and cultural understanding. Returning in the final year, students undertake mastery-level study of their major language and intermediate or higher study of their second language, alongside advanced European Studies modules that may include political, cultural, or historical topics. This structure combines language mastery with interdisciplinary knowledge, preparing graduates for careers that demand international awareness and cultural adaptability.
