COURSE CURRICULUM

The YUFE Joint Bachelor in Urban Sustainability Studies provides a structured and immersive learning experience across three years, combining interdisciplinary study with international exposure. In the first year, students build a strong foundation through core modules such as Introduction to Global Sustainability Challenges, Interdisciplinary Research and Problem-Solving, Ways of Knowing, Revolutions in History, Cities and Citizens in European History, Contemporary Urban Developments, and Researching Social Life. An optional module allows students to begin exploring specific areas of interest. The second year emphasizes flexibility and international experience, with students choosing to study abroad or select an Essex Minor, giving them the opportunity to tailor their learning while engaging with diverse European perspectives on sustainability. In the third year, students continue with the YUFE Essex Minor and complete a major Urban Sustainability Research Project, which enables them to apply their knowledge to practical, real-world challenges. Additional modules in Urban Sustainability and an optional course further support specialised study. Across all three years, the program blends academic rigour with practical application, fostering research, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills. By participating in collaborative projects, international learning experiences, and in-depth research, students develop the expertise, experience, and professional networks necessary to become effective leaders in urban sustainability and related fields.
