COURSE CURRICULUM

The undergraduate sociology program is structured over three years, providing a combination of core, compulsory, and optional modules designed to build a strong foundation and allow for specialization. In the first year, students focus on developing a sociological understanding and academic skills through core modules such as The Sociological Imagination, SC108-4-FY, Researching Social Life, and Unlocking Your Academic Potential, alongside optional modules that allow exploration of broader interests. The second year emphasizes the development of analytical and methodological skills, with compulsory modules like Power and Agency in a Global World and a choice of sociology methods, while students can also select optional sociology and non-sociology modules to tailor their learning experience. The final year is designed to consolidate knowledge and engage with advanced topics, featuring compulsory modules including Rethinking Modernity, with options to study specialized areas such as psychiatry and mental illness, and a capstone project that allows students to apply their learning in a research or applied context. Optional modules in the third year offer further opportunities for students to refine their interests and gain expertise in specific areas of sociology.
