COURSE CURRICULUM

This degree offers a structured journey through the combined fields of sociology and criminology, allowing students to develop critical perspectives on society, crime, and justice. In the first year, students build a strong foundation with modules such as The Sociological Imagination, Introduction to Crime, Law and Society, and Researching Social Life, which provide key insights into how societies function and how crime is studied. Alongside this, students enhance their academic skills through Unlocking Your Academic Potential and select optional modules to tailor their learning. The second year deepens understanding with compulsory modules including Power and Agency in a Global World, Race, Class and Gender, and New Directions in Criminology, which explore inequality, identity, and emerging trends in criminological thought. Students also gain flexibility to choose from a variety of optional modules while engaging in career-focused development through Career Development and Making a Difference. In the final year, the focus shifts to advanced and global themes with modules such as Rethinking Modernity and Globalisation and Crime. Students also complete a Capstone project from an approved list, allowing them to specialise in an area of interest, while additional optional modules provide the opportunity to further shape their studies.
