COURSE CURRICULUM

The BA in Psychosocial and Psychoanalytic Studies is designed to provide students with a deep understanding of human development, behaviour, and therapeutic practice, combining theoretical knowledge with practical experience. In the first year, students develop foundational skills through modules such as Introduction to Practice-Based Psychodynamic Observation and Reflective Practice, Therapeutic Work in Groups, and Understanding Individuals, Groups and Organisations, alongside studying child, adolescent, and adult development, statutory frameworks, and assignment and research writing. Optional modules allow students to explore additional areas of interest. The second year builds on this foundation with advanced practice-based observation, trauma and recovery, critical analysis of psychodynamic theory and practice, and exploration of violence and non-psychodynamic approaches, providing a comprehensive understanding of human behaviour and therapeutic interventions. Optional modules enable further specialisation. In the final year, students focus on developing counselling skills and therapeutic work, engage in a dissertation project, and participate in reflective practice and professional development. They also study organisational dynamics and group relations in professional life, preparing them for the complexities of working in educational, social care, or health settings. The program combines hands-on practice with academic study, equipping graduates with the skills, knowledge, and professional insight required to make a meaningful impact in caring and therapeutic professions, ensuring readiness for employment and further professional development.
