COURSE CURRICULUM

The BA Philosophy, Politics, and Economics (PPE) degree at Essex is designed to provide students with a broad and integrated understanding of three foundational disciplines. In the first year, students build a solid grounding through core modules in economics, politics, and philosophy, gaining essential knowledge of economic principles, political systems, and philosophical approaches, alongside optional modules to explore personal interests and the Career Portfolio to support professional development. In the second year, students continue to develop expertise in their chosen fields by selecting from a range of options across economics, politics, and philosophy, allowing them to tailor their studies while deepening analytical, critical, and research skills. The Career Portfolio continues to support employability and professional growth. In the final year, students undertake a capstone project, applying their interdisciplinary knowledge to an in-depth research topic, while choosing optional modules in politics, economics, or philosophy to further specialise and refine their understanding. This structure ensures that students gain a comprehensive, flexible, and integrated education that prepares them for complex, real-world challenges. Graduates develop the ability to analyse social, political, and economic issues critically, make informed decisions, and pursue careers in government, international organisations, policy analysis, research, and other sectors requiring nuanced understanding of global and national systems.
