COURSE CURRICULUM

The BA Philosophy and Sociology course provides a comprehensive and interdisciplinary understanding of human thought, society, and social structures. In the first year, students develop a foundation in philosophical inquiry through modules such as Introduction to Philosophy, while exploring the dynamics of society with The Sociological Imagination. Optional modules allow students to broaden their perspectives with courses from related fields, and the Beyond the BA: Skills for the Next Step module supports personal and professional development. In the second year, students examine complex social phenomena in Power and Agency in a Global World, complemented by optional philosophy and sociology modules that encourage critical thinking and interdisciplinary analysis. Opportunities to engage with computing and research methods are also offered, enhancing analytical and technical skills. The third year focuses on advanced study with Rethinking Modernity, where students critically reflect on contemporary societal challenges and philosophical questions. Additional options in philosophy and sociology, including specialized modules, allow students to tailor their learning to their interests, culminating in the Philosophy Capstone Module, which synthesizes knowledge and research skills developed throughout the course. By combining philosophy and sociology, the program equips students with a deep understanding of ethics, culture, identity, social structures, and public policy, preparing them for careers in research, public policy, education, and fields requiring critical, ethical, and analytical expertise.
