COURSE CURRICULUM

The BA Modern History and International Relations degree combines the study of historical developments with the analysis of global political systems, providing students with a comprehensive understanding of both disciplines. In the first year, students take core modules in international relations, including an introduction to the field and contemporary topics, alongside history modules that explore the political, social, and cultural transformations of the modern world. They also have the opportunity to choose optional modules in history or government, allowing them to tailor their learning to individual interests. In the second year, students build on this foundation with modules such as conflict analysis and a history research workshop, while continuing to select optional modules in history and government to broaden their knowledge and analytical skills. The third year focuses on consolidating expertise through core modules with options for specialization, alongside opportunities to undertake a dissertation in either history or government. Throughout the degree, students develop critical thinking, research, and analytical abilities, and gain insight into the intersections of historical events and contemporary international issues. Optional modules enable exploration of topics such as global conflicts, political institutions, revolutions, and the impact of historical developments on modern governance. Graduates are equipped with the knowledge and skills necessary for careers in policy, diplomacy, research, and other global professions.
