COURSE CURRICULUM

The BA Management Economics course at Essex is designed to provide students with a solid grounding in economics while focusing on how economic principles apply to organisational management and business strategy. In the first year, students build a foundation in economics, including core modules in introductory economics, quantitative methods, and optional modules to develop additional skills, alongside a career skills component to prepare for future employment. The second year develops this foundation with intermediate microeconomics and macroeconomics, alongside specialised modules such as the management of new technology and the economics of organisational management, allowing students to explore how firms operate, allocate resources, and respond to technological and market changes. Optional modules enable students to tailor their studies to their interests, while career skills training continues to support professional development. In the final year, students deepen their understanding of market structures, strategic behaviour, and monopoly regulation, complemented by a substantial independent project that develops research, analytical, and problem-solving skills. Additional optional modules allow further specialisation or exploration of emerging economic topics. Throughout the degree, the course emphasises the application of economic theory to real-world organisational and business contexts, preparing graduates with both theoretical insight and practical skills that are highly valued in management, consultancy, policy, and other careers requiring a strong understanding of economic decision-making and strategic behaviour.
