COURSE CURRICULUM

The BA Journalism with Human Rights degree combines the study of journalism with an in-depth understanding of human rights, equipping students with the knowledge and skills to report on global issues ethically and effectively. In the first year, students build a foundation in journalism through modules such as Essential Journalism, Contemporary Issues in Journalism, and Practical Podcasting, while also exploring the principles of human rights. This year emphasizes developing analytical, research, and communication skills, and introduces students to interdisciplinary perspectives and future career pathways. In the second year, the course expands practical skills through modules in audio and video production for broadcast and online media, feature writing, and magazine journalism, alongside advanced human rights study, including regional systems and global challenges. Students also have opportunities to choose optional modules that reflect personal interests in areas such as social sciences, government, or economics. In the final year, students consolidate their expertise with advanced practical journalism, comparative media law and regulation, and selected human rights issues, while continuing to pursue optional modules that allow specialization. Across all three years, the program emphasizes critical thinking, practical media production, and an understanding of human rights in diverse global contexts, preparing graduates for careers in journalism, advocacy, media production, and international reporting.
