COURSE CURRICULUM

The BA Journalism and Criminology degree combines the study of contemporary crime, law, and society with practical journalistic training, enabling students to develop analytical, research, and communication skills. In the first year, students build a foundation through core modules such as LT135-4-FY and SC104-4-FY, alongside compulsory modules in criminology and journalism including SC101-4-SP, LT147-4-SP, and LT138-4-AU, while also having the option to select modules from a list to tailor their studies. The focus is on understanding crime, its social context, and developing basic journalistic and media production skills. The second year advances knowledge through compulsory modules including LT231-5-FY, SC364-5-FY, SC204-5-SP, LT232-5-AU, and SC233-5-AU, with additional options such as LT317-5-SP or LT242-5-AU, allowing students to specialise in areas of interest within journalism or criminology. In the third year, students consolidate learning through advanced modules such as LT431-6-SP, SC304-6-FY, LT312-6-FY, SC382-6-SP, and compulsory-with-options modules like LT396-6-SP or LT969-6-AU, alongside optional spring term modules. Across all years, the program emphasises research, critical analysis, and multimedia production skills. This combination equips graduates with expertise in criminology, media, and journalism, preparing them for careers in investigative journalism, media, public policy, or research-related roles.
