COURSE CURRICULUM

The History and Criminology degree provides a comprehensive interdisciplinary approach to understanding crime and its historical context, equipping students with knowledge and analytical skills across both fields. In the first year, students engage with foundational modules including Rebellious Pasts: Challenging and Creating Histories, Introduction to Crime, Law and Society, Researching Social Life, and Crime, Control, and the City, while also choosing optional history modules and developing essential skills for future study and employment. The second year builds on this foundation with modules such as Exploring History: Research Workshop and New Directions in Criminology, alongside options in sociology and further history modules, enabling students to explore contemporary debates and research methods in both criminology and historical inquiry. In the final year, students study Globalisation and Crime, examining the international dimensions of criminal activity, and complete advanced modules in history, criminology, or sociology, tailored to their interests. Across all three years, the program emphasizes research skills, critical thinking, and contextual understanding, preparing students to analyze complex social and historical phenomena. Career readiness is supported through the Beyond the BA modules in each year, which focus on employability and professional development, ensuring graduates are well-equipped for roles in criminal justice, research, policy, and related sectors.
