COURSE CURRICULUM

The BA Global Studies with International Relations course at Essex is designed to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of international issues, combining global studies with elements of computer science, human rights, and languages. In the first year, students build a strong foundation through compulsory modules covering introductory global studies, computing, and human rights, while also having the option to choose from language or international modules to broaden their perspective. Core practical computing modules complement this foundation, and students develop skills in research, analysis, and critical thinking. The second year expands on these foundations with compulsory modules in advanced computing and global studies, including a focus on research skills, while optional modules allow students to tailor their studies through additional computing or international-focused courses. In the third year, students undertake a capstone computing project to consolidate their knowledge and practical skills, while continuing to have the flexibility to select international or language modules. Across all three years, the course emphasizes interdisciplinary learning, combining theoretical understanding with practical application, preparing students to engage with complex global issues. Graduates leave with a well-rounded skill set applicable to careers in international organizations, policy analysis, global business, or further academic research, and are equipped to navigate the challenges of an interconnected world.
