COURSE CURRICULUM

The BA Global Studies with Sustainability course offers a structured yet flexible pathway to understanding global issues with a strong focus on environmental challenges. In the first year, students build a foundation through core modules such as Interdisciplinary Research and Problem-Solving, Ways of Knowing, and an introduction to both global sustainability challenges and international relations. They also explore global studies history options and may choose international or language modules to broaden their perspectives, alongside developing essential academic and career skills. The second year deepens engagement with global thought by examining the social, cultural, political, and environmental legacies of the Enlightenment. Students study sustainability in practice through Social Entrepreneurs, Sustainability and Community Action, and Addressing Global Sustainability Challenges, while optional modules allow further specialisation in areas like sociology, computing, or international studies. The final year brings an advanced interdisciplinary focus, with compulsory study of Global Challenges in Interdisciplinary Perspective: Water Conflicts, Water Cultures, and a dedicated module on Climate Change and Pollution. Alongside these, students select from a wide range of optional international, language, or advanced modules to shape their degree. Overall, the course combines theory, practical engagement, and interdisciplinary study to prepare graduates for tackling global sustainability issues.
