COURSE CURRICULUM

The BA Global Studies and Modern Languages degree is structured to combine interdisciplinary training in global issues with the development of advanced language skills. In the first year, students build a foundation through compulsory modules in interdisciplinary research, ways of knowing, international relations, and the study of democracy in Europe and the United States. Alongside this, they begin or continue studying a chosen modern language, with options available from beginner to advanced level, while also developing key academic and career skills. The second year expands this foundation with a focus on the social, cultural, political, and environmental legacies of the Enlightenment, alongside practical engagement through a module on social entrepreneurship, sustainability, and community action. Students continue to enhance their language proficiency, selecting from post-beginner or advanced options, while also choosing additional international or computing modules to tailor their studies. The final year emphasizes applied, interdisciplinary learning through a core module on global challenges such as water conflicts and cultural perspectives on resources. Students also select from a wide range of international and language options, allowing them to reach high levels of linguistic mastery while deepening their understanding of pressing global issues. This combination prepares graduates for diverse international careers.
