COURSE CURRICULUM

The BA Global Studies and Latin American Studies degree is structured to combine interdisciplinary global perspectives with focused regional expertise. In the first year, students are introduced to key foundations through modules in sociology, democracy in Europe and the United States, interdisciplinary research, and ways of knowing. Alongside these, they begin language study in Spanish or Portuguese and select from additional options to broaden their academic base. The second year deepens understanding with core modules such as The World in Question, which explores the Enlightenment’s legacies, and America and the World, examining global connections. Students also study social entrepreneurship, sustainability, and community action, while continuing their language development. Additional options in history, sociology, or computing allow students to shape their learning around personal interests. The final year brings a strong focus on contemporary challenges, with compulsory modules on global water conflicts, business and social justice in Latin America, and advanced human rights study. Students also choose from a wide range of Latin American and interdisciplinary options, as well as further modules in computing or related fields. This blend of compulsory and optional study equips graduates with language proficiency, regional expertise, and global awareness to critically engage with pressing international issues.
