COURSE CURRICULUM

This degree combines film studies with creative writing, offering a balance of critical analysis and practical skills across three years. In the first year, students study compulsory modules including Contemporary Texts and Contexts, The Writer’s Toolkit, Approaches to Film and Media, and The Humanities Graduate: Future Pathways, alongside a choice between LT143-4-AU, LT146-4-SP, or LT151-4-AU. They also have the opportunity to take a 30-credit film studies option, allowing them to begin tailoring their learning. The second year builds on these foundations with Introduction to Screenwriting, a 30-credit core module that develops specialist skills, alongside Writing Structures and further compulsory-with-options choices between LT219-5-AU or LT269-5-SP. Students can personalise their study by selecting both film studies and creative writing options, each worth 30 credits, enabling them to deepen knowledge in preferred areas. In the final year, the course emphasises independent work through a compulsory capstone module, chosen from a list of advanced options, which allows for extended creative or critical engagement. This is supported by a wide range of optional modules across film, creative writing, and literature, as well as opportunities to take outside options. The course structure ensures a flexible, interdisciplinary approach, preparing students for careers in media, writing, and the wider creative industries.
