COURSE CURRICULUM

The Events Management degree at Essex University is structured to provide students with a comprehensive blend of academic learning and practical experience across three years. In the first year, students undertake seven compulsory modules, covering foundational aspects of events planning, hospitality, business management, and operational practices. This includes intensive exposure to the practical workings of a luxury hotel environment, where students gain hands-on experience in different departments such as the kitchen, front office, restaurant, and events. These placements develop professional skills and an understanding of the day-to-day operations required for successful event management. In the second year, the curriculum builds on this foundation with seven further compulsory modules, expanding knowledge in areas such as event logistics, financial management, human resources, digital marketing, and business innovation. Students continue to refine their practical skills, applying theoretical knowledge to real-world scenarios, including planning and executing events within the university’s Wivenhoe House hotel and other industry settings. In the final year, students complete six compulsory modules, with the option to choose between two specialized modules, focusing on advanced event management practices, strategic planning, and leadership skills. Across all three years, the course emphasizes the integration of practical experience with academic study, preparing students for successful careers in events management across weddings, corporate events, festivals, and high-profile national and international events.
