COURSE CURRICULUM

The Drama and Creative Writing degree is structured over three years, combining compulsory modules with options that allow students to explore their interests while building strong foundations in both disciplines. In the first year, students take core modules such as Origins and Transformations in Literature and Drama, The Writer’s Toolkit, Writing and Making Audio Drama, and The Humanities Graduate: Future Pathways, which introduce key skills and contexts for study. They also choose from a range of compulsory-with-options modules including TH141-4-AU or TH145-4-AU, TH142-4-AU or TH146-6-PS, and LT143-4-AU or another option from the list, providing early opportunities to tailor their learning. The second year develops both creative and critical practice with compulsory modules including Global Encounters in Theatre, Tragedy and Theatre Writing, Writing Structures, Writing the Short Story, and Creative Non-Fiction. Further flexibility is offered through compulsory-with-options choices such as TH207-5-SP or another module from the list, and TH205-5-SP or TH245-5-SP, encouraging deeper engagement with theatre and writing specialisms. In the final year, students undertake a major project by choosing between TH831-6-FY or LT832-6-FY, alongside three optional modules from a wide range of choices. This structure balances creative exploration with academic depth, preparing graduates for diverse creative and professional careers.
