COURSE CURRICULUM

The Criminology degree is structured across three years, combining compulsory modules with optional choices to provide both core knowledge and flexibility. In the first year, students take core modules such as SC104-4-FY, SC101-4-SP, SC111-4-FY, and SC099-4-AU, which establish a foundation in criminology, sociology, and research skills, while also selecting 30 credits of optional modules from an approved list or from outside the discipline to broaden their learning. The second year builds on these foundations with compulsory modules including SC205-5-FY, SC233-5-AU, and SC204-5-SP, which explore criminological theory, methods, and contemporary issues. Students also choose from a range of optional modules, worth up to 45 credits, enabling them to tailor their studies to specific areas of interest, alongside a compulsory-with-options module worth 15 credits. In addition, SC199-5-FY, a non-credit module, supports academic development and engagement. The final year emphasises independent research and advanced study, with a compulsory capstone project worth 30 credits, SC304-6-FY, and SC382-6-SP, while SC199-6-FY provides further academic guidance. Optional modules such as SC306-6-AU, SC385-6-FY, or other criminology and sociology options allow for specialisation, ensuring students graduate with both broad knowledge and expertise in areas that match their academic and career aspirations.
