COURSE CURRICULUM

The Criminology degree is designed to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of crime, justice, and social structures across three years, combining core modules with optional choices to allow for specialisation. In the first year, students establish foundational knowledge through core modules such as PA134-4-FY, SC104-4-FY, SC101-4-SP, SC111-4-FY, and SC099-4-AU, which cover the essentials of criminology, sociology, and research methods. This prepares students to engage critically with the nature of crime, its causes, and societal responses. The second year expands on these foundations with compulsory modules including SC213-5-AU, SC233-5-AU, SC204-5-SP, and SC413-5-SP, which explore advanced criminological concepts, social control, and contemporary issues, while additional optional and compulsory-with-options modules allow students to tailor their learning to specific areas of interest. SC199-5-FY, a non-credit module, supports ongoing academic development. In the final year, students consolidate their learning through core modules SC304-6-FY, SC326-6-AU, and SC387-6-SP, alongside a capstone project chosen from an approved list, providing the opportunity for in-depth independent study. Further optional modules, such as LG364-6-SP, enable additional specialisation, while SC199-6-FY continues to support career and academic development, ensuring graduates are well-prepared for professional and research opportunities.
