COURSE CURRICULUM

This Criminology degree provides students with a comprehensive understanding of crime, law, and society, combining theoretical knowledge with practical and research skills. In the first year, students establish a foundation through core modules including Introduction to Crime, Law and Society, Researching Social Life, The Sociological Imagination, and Criminal Law, alongside Unlocking Your Academic Potential, which supports academic skill development. These modules equip students with critical thinking, analytical abilities, and an understanding of the social, legal, and institutional contexts of crime. The second year deepens this knowledge through compulsory modules such as Policing, Punishment and Society, Race, Class and Gender, and New Directions in Criminology, while providing opportunities to explore optional modules and methods-based learning tailored to individual interests. Career Development and Making a Difference supports professional readiness. In the final year, students undertake a capstone project, allowing for independent research and specialisation, and study advanced topics such as Globalisation and Crime. Additional compulsory-with-options and optional modules, including law-focused choices, enable further personalisation and specialisation.
