COURSE CURRICULUM

The BA Crime and American Studies course is structured over three years, combining the study of crime, criminal justice, and American society with flexible interdisciplinary options. In the first year, students build a foundation through compulsory modules including SC104-4-FY, CS111-4-SP, SC164-4-SP, HR106-4-SP, and GV110-4-AU, alongside optional modules that allow exploration across social sciences and humanities. The Beyond the BA module supports career development and professional skills. In the second year, students advance their understanding with compulsory modules such as SC205-5-FY, CS261-5-AU, SC233-5-AU, and SC204-5-SP, while also engaging with American-focused modules and options to tailor their studies. This year balances theory, practical skills, and interdisciplinary exploration, providing insights into contemporary social issues, criminal justice systems, and the cultural context of crime. The final year includes an autumn term abroad in the United States, immersing students in American culture and society. Students continue with compulsory modules such as SC361-6-SP, alongside advanced options in sociology and US studies, and complete a capstone project that integrates their learning. Across the program, students develop critical thinking, analytical, and research skills, gaining the knowledge and experience to pursue careers in criminology, policy, law enforcement, or related professional fields with an international perspective.
