COURSE CURRICULUM

The BA Acting and Contemporary Theatre course is structured over three years to develop actors who are versatile, creative, and skilled in a wide range of performance practices. In the first year, students build a strong foundation in acting techniques through modules such as Introduction to Acting Theory, Verbatim Theatre, Actor and Text, and Comedia Dell’Arte and Improvised Theatre. They also begin technical training with Voice I, Movement I, and Music and Singing I, alongside Contextual Studies to understand performance within its broader cultural framework. The second year focuses on expanding creative practice through modules in Expressionism, Physical Theatre, Film, and Physical Comedy, while further developing technical skills in Voice II, Movement II, and Music and Singing II. Site Specific Classics and Contextual Studies II encourage experimentation with performance in non-traditional spaces and deepen academic understanding of theatre. The final year emphasises professional preparation and original creation. Students work on New Plays, Actor-Led Final Projects, and Issue-Led Theatre, showcasing their ability to devise, collaborate, and perform in contemporary contexts. Training culminates with advanced classes in voice, movement, music, and singing, supported by Contextual Studies III, ensuring graduates leave with artistic independence, industry readiness, and a strong creative identity.
