COURSE CURRICULUM

This teacher training program is structured to prepare future educators through a strong combination of research-led learning, subject-specific development, and hands-on teaching experience. The Active Enquiry and Intervention: Impacting upon Learner Progress module focuses on developing critical thinking and reflective practice through educational research. Trainees are introduced to action research methods and carry out a classroom intervention based on academic literature and primary research. The module encourages evidence-informed teaching by helping trainees apply and evaluate classroom strategies that improve learning outcomes in real educational settings.In the School-Based Learning: Reflections on Practice module, trainees begin their teaching journey within a secondary school environment. With guidance from an experienced mentor, they apply current theories and curriculum initiatives in a practical context. The module supports the development of key professional skills and helps trainees meet the Teachers’ Standards for Qualified Teacher Status. It places particular emphasis on effective teaching methods that support children's learning and development, ensuring that trainees gain confidence and competence in the classroom.The Developing Subject Expertise and Subject Specialism module enhances trainees' ability to critically evaluate and strengthen their subject knowledge. It guides them in identifying specific areas of their subject that require improvement and in implementing strategies to develop expertise. The module also explores how different pedagogical models influence student learning, encouraging the creation and refinement of tailored teaching approaches suited to particular classroom contexts. Reflection is central, helping trainees continuously adapt and improve their practice based on experience and research.Together, these modules create a comprehensive program that prepares trainees to become knowledgeable, reflective, and effective educators, equipped to meet the challenges of today’s classrooms through research-informed strategies and subject-driven teaching.
