COURSE CURRICULUM

This teacher training program integrates subject knowledge development, evidence-based practice, and hands-on school experience to prepare future educators for effective classroom teaching. The Developing Subject Expertise and Subject Specialism module enables trainees to identify and address specific gaps in their subject knowledge. By selecting an area for improvement, trainees implement strategies to strengthen their expertise and explore the impact of pedagogy on student learning. The module introduces various pedagogical models, encouraging the development and application of a tailored approach suited to the specific teaching context. Reflection on the implementation allows trainees to adapt and refine their methods, promoting continual professional growth. The School-Based Learning: Reflections on Practice module provides an initial teaching experience in a secondary school environment. Trainees work closely with experienced mentors to explore best practices in teaching, engage with curriculum developments, and apply their academic knowledge in real classroom settings. The aim is to support the development of professional competence and to ensure that trainees are equipped to meet the Teachers’ Standards for Qualified Teacher Status. The module also emphasizes effective support for children's learning and development through informed and reflective teaching strategies. The Active Enquiry and Intervention: Impacting upon Learner Progress module focuses on the development of critical thinking, reflective practice, and educational research skills. Trainees are introduced to action research and its role in shaping reflective teaching. They carry out a classroom intervention based on primary research and academic literature, applying evidence-informed strategies and critically evaluating their effectiveness. This module reinforces the connection between educational theory and classroom practice, encouraging the use of research to inform teaching decisions.Together with the Research Informed Practice and Securing Pupil Progress modules, which further emphasize the use of evidence to enhance student learning and track progress, the program ensures that trainee teachers are well-prepared to make a meaningful impact in the classroom through reflective, research-driven, and subject-focused approaches.
