COURSE CURRICULUM

The MSc in Engineering Management with a focus on the built environment delivers a multidisciplinary curriculum that equips students for leadership roles in the modern engineering and construction industries. Central to the program is the Mental Wealth: Professional Life module, which explores the evolving responsibilities of engineers and construction managers, emphasizing the influence of technological innovation on production processes. It also develops key skills in management, finance, contracts, and numerical analysis. The Facility and Asset Management module highlights the strategic importance of efficiently maintaining operational assets to maximize performance and minimize costs. It integrates concepts from construction management, maintenance planning, scheduling, and health and safety, with particular attention to Building Information Modelling (BIM). Environmental Sustainable Engineering & Logistics offers a comprehensive overview of sustainable practices in construction, covering design-to-operation processes and regulations that promote environmental responsibility and workplace safety. The Spatial Databases and Data Management module introduces students to the handling of spatial data critical to infrastructure projects. It covers the management of 2D and 3D relational databases and the data lifecycle, equipping students with the tools to support informed, data-driven decisions in the built environment. The Research Skills and Dissertation module enables students to apply research methodologies to a self-directed project, strengthening their analytical and critical thinking skills while addressing complex engineering issues. Complementing the academic modules, the Industrial Placement core module provides students with the opportunity to gain hands-on experience in a professional setting. Through job search support, interview preparation, and practical work placement, students apply their academic learning in real-world scenarios while developing new competencies. Together, these modules provide a balanced blend of theory, application, and industry engagement, preparing graduates to lead innovative, efficient, and sustainable engineering projects within the built environment.
