COURSE CURRICULUM

The MSc program in Global Development is designed to provide students with a critical and practical understanding of the current issues, theories, and practices shaping the field of development today. The core module, Global Development Now, introduces students to contemporary debates in global development by examining key literature and critiques within development theory. It emphasizes the practical application of these theoretical insights to real-world problems, helping students develop practitioner-focused skills. The Research Methods for Social Science module builds essential competencies in research design and methodology, preparing students to apply a range of qualitative and quantitative methods for evidence-based policy-making. This module also plays a vital role in enhancing employability by enabling students to translate academic research into practical policy insights. The Policy and Practice of Humanitarianism and Development module, part of the Mental Wealth series, offers an interdisciplinary and hands-on approach to key issues such as displacement, gender-based violence, and human trafficking. It blends theory with case study analysis and applied skills, preparing students for roles in policy-making and humanitarian response. The program culminates in the Independent Applied Research Project, where students undertake an original piece of research that consolidates their learning across the course.
