COURSE CURRICULUM

The program focusing on conflict, displacement, and human security is designed to develop a deep and practical understanding of the complexities within humanitarian and development contexts. The module Introduction to Conflict, Displacement and Human Security introduces students to the evolving nature of modern conflicts, the dynamics of forced displacement, and the resulting human security challenges. It emphasizes a comprehensive approach that sees individuals not only as victims but as agents of social change, while also examining conflict prevention, reconciliation, and peace-building strategies. The Research Methods for Social Science module equips students with essential research skills, enabling them to apply a range of methodologies to support evidence-based policymaking. This prepares students for roles where data-driven decisions and research-informed strategies are critical. The Policy and Practice of Humanitarianism and Development – Mental Wealth module bridges theory and practice by offering insights into the politics and application of international development and humanitarian efforts. It uses a participatory and interdisciplinary approach to address global issues such as displacement, gender-based violence, and human trafficking, while also offering training in policy analysis and case study evaluation. The program culminates in the Independent Applied Research Project, which allows students to synthesize their learning by conducting a significant piece of original research. This module strengthens their abilities in planning, executing, and evaluating a research project independently, while demonstrating key skills such as time management, critical thinking, and academic rigor. Overall, the program equips students with the theoretical knowledge and practical capabilities needed to navigate and address pressing global challenges in humanitarian and development settings.
