COURSE CURRICULUM

The PhD via MPhil is a structured research degree designed for those aiming to make a significant original contribution to knowledge in their chosen field. It is especially suitable for individuals pursuing careers in academia, research, or high-level roles in industry or commerce. The program is available across a wide range of subject areas, reflecting its broad academic appeal. Initially, students are enrolled on the MPhil, with the opportunity to transfer to PhD status typically after two years of full-time study or the equivalent in part-time mode. The full course duration is at least 36 months for full-time students and 60 months for part-time students. Each student is supported by a supervisory team of at least two research-active academics who guide and assess progress through regular meetings and reviews. The culmination of the PhD is the submission of an 80,000-word thesis that presents the student’s original research. This is followed by a viva, an oral examination during which the student defends their work in front of a panel of experts. This rigorous academic process ensures that the research meets the standards of originality and scholarly excellence required for the award of a PhD.
