COURSE CURRICULUM

In the final MFA year, the Professional Platform and Creative Practice core modules are designed to bridge academic training with industry engagement, preparing students to launch their professional careers as confident and capable creative practitioners. The Professional Platform module provides a structured opportunity for students to engage directly with the industry through supervised projects or placements tailored to their area of expertise. This often includes a collaborative role within the university, contributing to the development and delivery of undergraduate-level public performance projects in partnership with academic staff and external professionals. Additionally, students are encouraged to secure external industry placements, guided by academic supervisors who help them build a professional portfolio. This portfolio typically includes case studies, drafts of professional projects, and reflective materials, all of which are designed to support presentation or participation in conferences, exhibitions, or professional residencies and internships. These experiences offer invaluable practical insights and help students build professional networks while showcasing their ability to contribute to real-world creative contexts.Running alongside this, the Creative Practice module allows students to develop a significant body of original work through an independent, supervised, and student-led process. This module challenges students to explore key contextual issues relevant to their discipline and to produce a professional-standard creative output. Emphasis is placed on rigorous research, critical reflection, and sustained creative exploration, encouraging students to refine their artistic voice while achieving high technical and conceptual standards. Throughout the process, students are supported in developing a clear understanding of their place within the wider creative industry, equipping them with the intellectual and interpersonal skills needed for a sustainable career. Together, these modules provide a comprehensive platform for emerging artists to transition from academic study into professional practice with confidence and clarity.
