The Research Methods and Applied Research Project in SEND core module is designed to deepen your understanding of inclusive education and the multifaceted role of the Special Educational Needs Coordinator (SENCo). Through critical engagement with theories of inclusion and personalised learning, you will explore how educational environments can adapt to meet the needs of all learners. The module encourages reflection on the implementation of inclusive practices and supports the development of a comprehensive understanding of how these principles can be applied within your own educational context.A key component of the module is the critical evaluation of personalised learning practices. You will assess how effectively current strategies in planning, teaching, and assessment meet the needs of pupils with special educational needs and disabilities. This includes examining how these practices ensure accessibility, provide appropriate levels of challenge, and support the achievement of all students. The module promotes a thoughtful approach to evaluating whether educational practices are genuinely inclusive or whether further adaptation is needed.You will also have the opportunity to design and undertake an applied research project related to SEND within your own setting. This will involve identifying a relevant area of interest or concern, applying suitable research methodologies, and analysing findings that can inform and improve practice. By undertaking this project, you will develop essential research skills and gain insight into how evidence-based practice can drive positive change.In addition, the module explores the strategic role of the SENCo in promoting inclusive practice and leading professional development.
