COURSE CURRICULUM

The Professional Sound and Music course offers an immersive and interdisciplinary learning experience, designed for individuals seeking to develop and refine their skills in sound and music within diverse professional and creative contexts. This program can be taken as an MA or an MFA, with the MFA extending over an additional year, allowing for further exploration and application of advanced practice. Central to the course is the opportunity to specialise in areas such as sound design, music production, performance, or sound for media, games, and theatre. Through a combination of theoretical insight and hands-on practice, students are encouraged to explore the boundaries of sound and music in contemporary settings.The course is structured around a set of core modules that support both creative growth and interdisciplinary collaboration. Interdisciplinary Intersections introduces students to methodologies for working across disciplines, enabling them to develop frameworks that support collaborative practice with professionals in fields such as drama, film, architecture, animation, and multimedia. Modules such as Advanced Sound Design and Production and Advanced Music Performance, Composition and Production focus on cultivating high-level technical and creative capabilities, equipping students to produce professional-quality work for a variety of contexts. Creative Technologies and Creative Project Design, subject to validation, are expected to provide further tools and strategies for innovative project development and implementation.The culmination of the course is the Dissertation or Final Project, where students undertake an extended research or practice-based investigation in their chosen area of interest. This allows them to demonstrate independence, originality, and professionalism in both thought and execution. Throughout the program, there is a strong emphasis on collaboration, professional development, and the cultivation of a unique artistic voice. Graduates of the course are well-positioned to pursue careers in the creative industries or continue into further academic research or professional practice.
