COURSE CURRICULUM

The Global Sports Journalism program, with a focus on football, offers a comprehensive and practice-oriented curriculum designed to prepare students for dynamic careers in international sports media. At its core is the "Essential Global Football Journalism: Writing & Reporting" module, where students develop practical skills in writing and reporting football news across digital platforms and for diverse global audiences. This includes learning techniques such as live match reporting, on-the-whistle journalism, previews, and live blogging, along with the ability to adapt content for various media formats.In "Global Football in Context," students explore the historical, social, political, economic, and cultural factors that have shaped the global football industry. This module provides a deep understanding of football's broader impact and its evolution into a global phenomenon, helping students appreciate the complexities of the sport beyond the pitch.The "Employment and Industry Engagement" module builds essential workplace skills, preparing students for real-world media environments such as newsrooms, press conferences, and interviews. It focuses on professional communication, storytelling, editorial collaboration, pitching ideas, and leadership, equipping students to confidently navigate industry settings."Professional Practice and Research Methods (Mental Wealth)" introduces students to academic research and project planning. It covers research design, methodologies, and conceptual development, laying the groundwork for the final independent project. Students also build essential competencies in critical thinking and self-directed learning, aligned with UEL’s Mental Wealth initiative, which promotes resilience and career readiness.The program culminates with the "Final Project," where students undertake an independent research or media production project. Guided by supervisors and supported by group sessions and technical resources, this module allows students to apply their knowledge creatively and critically. Together, these core modules offer a well-rounded education that merges journalistic skills, academic inquiry, and professional development in the global football media landscape.
