COURSE CURRICULUM

The three core modules—The Director and the Text, Narrative Cinema, and Performance Platform—lay a comprehensive foundation for students pursuing theatre and film studies by integrating traditional practices with contemporary perspectives. In The Director and the Text, students explore essential directorial techniques, including those rooted in the traditions of Stanislavsky and Meisner, within the framework of postdramatic theatre. The module not only examines the director’s evolving role in today’s theatre landscape but also promotes inclusivity by challenging conventional Eurocentric and normative forms of performance. It encourages students to contribute their diverse experiences, fostering an environment of shared learning and responsibility that prioritizes safety and mental well-being. Narrative Cinema shifts the focus to film production, where students gain hands-on experience in creating short narrative films. This includes learning key elements such as directing actors, managing production crews, and navigating post-production processes. These practical skills are reinforced through an exploration of narrative styles found in both mainstream and independent cinema, as well as a global range of cinematic traditions. Finally, the Performance Platform module offers a space for students to synthesize and apply their learning through a self-initiated project. Emphasizing research methodology, project management, and critical reflection, it challenges students to produce work that is not only creatively and technically refined but also informed by their academic and practical development throughout the course. Together, these modules equip students with the tools and perspectives needed to navigate and contribute meaningfully to the evolving fields of theatre and film.
