COURSE CURRICULUM

The Creative Industries postgraduate program is structured to combine theoretical learning with practical, real-world experience, enabling students to develop the skills and knowledge needed for a successful and sustainable career in the creative sector. Through a combination of lectures, seminars, guided reading, practical projects, and reflective work, students engage with industry-relevant content and activities. The module Working in the Creative Industries introduces students to the broad spectrum of creative professions and career paths, with a focus on building entrepreneurial skills and collaborative practices to support freelance work or business development. Investigating Media and Communication Industries explores the structure, transformation, and political economy of global media systems. It examines industry practices, convergence, and the relationship between technology, society, and media. Students also complete a Career Development Project, allowing them to apply their learning to real-world or research-based work. The Developing a Creative Business module offers tools for turning creative ideas into viable enterprises. Using methods such as the Business Model Canvas and Design Thinking, students learn how to build, scale, and manage creative businesses in competitive environments. In Research Methods in Creative Practice, students develop a personalised research strategy for their final project, focusing on experimentation and the preparation of innovative ideas and approaches. Strategic Thinking and Leadership builds leadership capabilities and strategic planning skills to help students drive growth and performance in creative organisations. It involves critical analysis of organisations and equips students to make effective decisions in complex business contexts. Finally, the Project Platform module allows students to produce a self-directed practical or research-based project. This capstone experience brings together creative, technical, and academic competencies and requires a demonstration of research methodology, technical proficiency, and reflective practice. Collectively, these modules prepare students for leadership and innovation in the evolving creative industries.
