COURSE CURRICULUM

The LLM program at the University of East London offers a carefully structured curriculum designed to build a deep understanding of international law while developing essential research and employability skills. The core module, International Law: Problems and Process (Mental Wealth), introduces students to key issues in public and private international law, encouraging critical engagement with current legal debates. This module also includes workshops aligned with UEL’s Mental Wealth initiative, focusing on academic orientation, research techniques, and employability skills. The Regulation of Financial Markets module examines the complex frameworks governing financial systems across sectors and jurisdictions. It provides insight into the challenges, objectives, and mechanisms of financial regulation in a rapidly evolving global context. The International Law and Business module explores the intersection between international legal norms and corporate activities, analyzing how businesses shape and are shaped by international legal standards. It also considers how domestic legal principles are integrated into broader international frameworks. The Applied Project module offers students the opportunity to undertake independent research on a topic of their choice within the field of international law. This project allows students to apply the theoretical knowledge and methodological approaches learned throughout the course to a focused area of personal or professional interest. In addition to these core modules, students may choose to opt into the LLM Optional Placement year. This placement provides practical legal experience within a professional setting, helping students bridge the gap between academic study and the legal industry. The placement must be selected at the time of application and is supported by the university to ensure it aligns with the student’s career aspirations. Together, these modules offer a balanced mix of academic depth, practical application, and professional development, preparing graduates to engage confidently and competently in the global legal landscape.
