COURSE CURRICULUM

The LLM program in International Law is structured around three core modules designed to build advanced legal knowledge, critical research abilities, and practical advocacy skills for a global context. The International Law: Problems and Process (Mental Wealth) module serves as the foundation, introducing students to key debates in both public and private international law while developing essential postgraduate research skills. This module also incorporates workshops focused on employability, legal competencies, and mental wealth, helping students navigate their academic and professional journeys. Advocacy, Interventions and Practice builds on this foundation by exploring the practical aspects of legal work in international contexts. Students gain an understanding of various advocacy strategies, legal interventions, and the mechanics of legal practice aimed at advancing human rights, development, and the rule of law. The module covers the fundamentals of courtroom etiquette, legal procedures, and the broader role of advocacy in achieving justice and reform. The Applied Project is the final core module, offering students the opportunity to conduct independent legal research on a topic of their choice. This dissertation module allows for deeper exploration of a specific area of international law, applying the research methodologies and legal theories learned in earlier modules. Students are expected to demonstrate critical thinking, academic rigour, and original insight in their chosen field. Together, these modules equip students with a strong theoretical grounding in international law, practical legal skills, and the ability to conduct independent research. The program is designed to prepare graduates for careers in international legal practice, human rights advocacy, policy-making, or further academic research, with an emphasis on employability, personal development, and the competencies needed for leadership in a global legal environment.
